Manchester United limped to a 1-0 defeat against Bayern Munich on Tuesday evening, snuffing out their hopes of competing in Europe for the remainder of the season.
The odds were against Erik ten Hag’s embattled side – who were unable to bounce back at home from a 3-0 humbling at the hands of Bournemouth over the weekend – with the Manchester club in need of results to go their way in the tie between Copenhagen and Galatasaray to secure a spot in the Champions League knockout stage.
But losing at Old Trafford put United out of contention for even a spot in the Europa League, capping a disappointing run abroad in the thick of a turbulent season.
